OVS Annecy is a French ice hockey club located in Annecy, Haute-Savoie. The club was founded in 1909 and played its first season in the Ligue Magnus in 1909-10. In the Middle Ages, a small village called Ancyra developed around this oppidum. In 988, Emperor Otto I granted Annecy its first charter from Count Hugh I of Burgundy. The Counts of Provence and Savoy leased lands from the emperor in turn and founded several monasteries in and around Annecy including Sainte-Radegonde and Saint-Gervais-le-Boucher.
In 1290, after an earthquake destroyed much of the town, Count Raymond VI of Toulouse rebuilt it on a grander scale and established a new town hall. This made Annecy one of the most important cities in Savoy. It also became an important commercial center because it was at the crossroads of several trade routes including the Via Francigena and the Via Claudia Augusta.
